Iām always excited to round out the year with my favorite foreign policy books. Some youāve seen in the newsletter, such as Patricia Evangelistaās Some People Need Killing, which is incredibly chilling but an amazing read and Leta Hong Fincherās Leftover Women, which is just out in its 10th anniversary edition. As I prepare for a second year of teaching Feminist Foreign Policy at Bard, Iāve been devouring Kristina Lunzās The Future of Foreign Policy is Feminist, Stephanie Foster and Susan Markamās Feminist Foreign Policy in Theory and Practice, and Hawoon Jungās Flowers of Fire. I learned so much reading Liz Mundyās book on the women at the CIA and Yepoka Yeeboās account of Ghanaian conman John Ackah Blay-Miezah, who swindled millions worldwide.
The links for the books are below. They all link to Tertulia, a female-led online book community. Membership-driven, itās REI for book lovers āĀ and more. Tertulia is Spanish for an informal salon. As we end another year and start a new one, Iām pulling out this NYT piece from 2003 and thinking about āemendations and erasures and crossings-outā that take place on our proverbial calendars and looking ahead. āIf thereās any fixing to be done,ā the piece notes, about referring to our lives and world, āit will have to be done in the future.ā Indeed. Yet, the future depends on what we do today.
Iām wishing you a happy, healthy, and restful holiday āĀ a happy 2024. Team Interruptrr will be back in mid-January (I havenāt decided exactly whenā¦.) As always, thank you reader. This newsletter means the world to me and you make that so. ā Elmira
